In 2006 Nike released a limited edition boot exclusively designed to be worn by Ronaldinho during the FIFA World Cup. The peculiarity of the boot was its gold colour which just added to all the classic Nike Air Legend attributes of touch, control and comfort.
The decision of making that boot, was taken to increase the sales of the basic Tiempo Air Legend boot, which appeared to be too poor in comparison to more fashionable shoes designed by competitor manufacturers. It was a great decision because this marketing strategy permitted people to appreciate the Tiempo Air Legend, not only for its new colors but above all for the comfort and high quality of materials.

Ronaldinho himself had a hand in the design of his personal boots, adding his nickname to the insole and the R and 10 (inspired by a motif on his personal neck chain) to the tongues of the boots!

Key features of the boot were:

  • The upper made from a supersoft ”K” leather which created instant comfort and touch combined with feel and lightweight responsiveness., a perfect example of how the confident poise and playmaking skills could match the attributes and stength of the chosen boot.
  • The innersole included the famous Zoom Air for protected shock absorbtion, while the high-tech moulded sockliner added comfort and cushioning.

The result of this marketing strategy was an immediate boom in sales: every boy, every would-be football player, wanted to wear the same boots as Ronaldinho!!

As a consequence of the huge success of Tiempo Air Legend Nike decided to produce also Tiempo Air Legend II and Tiempo Air Legend III.
